Here's how leather restoration can dramatically transform
leather that is worn, faded, damaged . . . or just plain tired
. . . back to its original look, feel and colour!
It doesn't matter if its your . . .
- Lounge suite
- Car upholstery
- Office furniture
- Or your leather jacket.
As long as it's top finished leather, the products and techniques
are all the same.

You see, when leather starts to look shabby, in most cases
the finish or the colour on the surface of the leather has
worn off and can look stained or discoloured.
This is very common with Leather
Upholstery. Many people think that when their leather
gets to this stage, they will have to spend thousands of dollars,
reupholstering or replacing their leather furniture.
Not any more!
The truth is, once you know the secrets of leather restoration,
you can easily transform your leather to its original look,
feel and colour . . . saving you a fortune!

Here's A Simple Overview Of
How I Restore Leather ...
- First, the old finish or colour is chemically removed. As
you can imagine, this process is time consuming and must be
done with extreme care . . . after all, if the preparation is
not right, the rest will fail.
- The new leather colour is then carefully rubbed into the leather
and then lightly sprayed to give uniform coverage.
- A heavy duty leather sealer is then applied to give it high
performance and durability so your leather will last longer.
- To complete the work, the 'Pelle' Leather
Conditioner is applied to help soften the leather and further
increase its wear life.
Here
are 'before' and 'after' photos of a chesterfield 3 seater that
I restored. As you can see in the first photo, the cushions were
looking baggy and the leather surface was looking very raw indeed.
What
I did was, I had an upholsterer replace the filling in the cushions.
I then refinished the entire couch and as a finishing touch, I
had the old tarnished studs replaced with new ones. The owner,
when she came to pick it up, was completely stunned!
Even Cracked Leather Can Be Restored
Because
the cracks are deeper than the finish itself, the refinishing process
will not get rid of cracking.
What happens is, the new finish is rubbed into the cracks giving
the leather a uniform colour
The cracks will still be there, but they will not be obvious.
Much to the delight of many classic car owners who prefer the
original cracked look.
The owner of a 1951 Bentley asked me to restore the leather interior
of his car. The leather, especially the 2 front seats, was extremely
worn and covered with cracks.
He
explained to me that he wanted to retain the cracks because they
were in keeping with the age of the car. As you can see in the first
photo, the leather was looking fairly worn and tired.
Now,
what I did was, completely striped off all of the old finish,
right back to the original leather and then, I carried out the
process we talked about earlier.
As you can see in the 'after' photo, the cracks are still there
but now they are no longer noticeable. The owner of this car was
so delighted, he sent me a testimonial!
Torn And Cracked Leather
Can Also Be Restored
If
you refer NOT to retain the cracking in your leather, that is
easily fixed. Here's how it's done:
The cracked, torn, ripped or even burnt panels are removed by
an upholsterer, and a new piece of leather is sewn in its place.
Then, the leather upholstery is refinished back to its original
colour.
For example, this recliner chair came to me with a tear in the
seat cushion, a tear in the arm and the other arm and the head
rest was badly cracked.
I had those panels replaced with new leather and then the entire
chair was refinished back to its original colour .
As you can see in the 'after' photo, the chair was completely
transformed. The owner, when they came to pick it up, thought
is was a brand new chair!
(Please note that in all of the examples on this site, because
the 'before' photos were taken in different light and different
times of the day to the 'after' photos, they appear to be a different
colour. I can assure you that the colour matching was absolutely
perfect. It's very difficult to capture EXACT colour with cameras.)
How Does The Leather Perform Once Restored?
All of the resins and pigments that I use are EXACTLY the same
as used in the tannery when making Leather
Hides . What that means is, your leather will look, feel and
perform the same as the original leather finish.
Furthermore, my finishing work has been tested by LASRA
and in many cases will OUTPERFORM the original leather finish!
